Arsenal Kylian Mbappe transfer boost as Emmanuel Petit explains Real Madrid exit conditions

Arsenal linked with surprise Kylian Mbappe opportunity as Real Madrid unrest grows, says Emmanuel Petit
There’s a growing sense around Europe that Kylian Mbappe’s long-term future at Real Madrid might not be as secure as everyone assumed when he finally arrived in Spain.
And while that alone would normally sound like noise from the usual transfer rumour mill, comments from Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit have pushed the conversation into slightly more serious territory.
Petit, speaking publicly this week, has suggested that Arsenal could become a realistic destination if things continue to unravel at the Bernabeu.
It’s the kind of suggestion that would have sounded far-fetched not long ago, but Madrid’s current internal mood has opened the door to speculation that simply wouldn’t exist otherwise.
And Arsenal, quietly going about their own rise under Mikel Arteta, have found themselves unexpectedly pulled into the conversation.
Real Madrid tension sets the backdrop
The situation in Madrid has been far from calm. Reports from inside the club point to a dressing room under serious strain, with tensions boiling over in training.
One incident, involving Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, reportedly escalated to the point where Valverde required hospital treatment.
It’s the kind of detail that immediately raises eyebrows, even by Real Madrid standards, where pressure and expectation are part of the daily environment. But this feels more fractured than usual.
Mbappe, meanwhile, is dealing with a different kind of scrutiny altogether. His start to life in Spain has been watched more closely than almost any player in world football, and every moment seems to come with a second layer of judgement from supporters.
The frustration among sections of the fanbase intensified when he was seen on holiday during a period of injury recovery.
That alone would normally pass without much noise, but in Madrid it triggered a fierce reaction online.
According to reports, an online petition calling for his departure gathered an extraordinary level of support, reaching 70 million signatures.
Whether that figure reflects genuine sentiment or the chaos of modern football discourse, it still paints a picture of a player under constant pressure.
Petit sees Arsenal as a possible landing spot
It’s in this context that Emmanuel Petit has floated the idea of Arsenal stepping in, should the situation ever reach a breaking point. For him, Mikel Arteta’s side would not only be an attractive option, but also a tactical fit for Mbappe’s profile.
Speaking about the forward’s future, Petit told BOYLE Sports: “Arsenal would love Kylian Mbappe and he’d be perfect on their left wing. The only reason I think Mbappe will stay at Real Madrid is because if he leaves without winning a trophy it would make his move a failure.
Mbappe has a huge ego so he will probably want to stay and to prove the opposite. I’m pretty sure about that. I don’t see him leaving Madrid, probably the biggest club in the world, unless the decision is made for him.”
It’s a fairly grounded assessment from someone who knows both the player and the Premier League well. Petit isn’t exactly predicting an imminent move, but he is outlining a scenario where Arsenal would be ready to react if circumstances changed.
For now, though, he still believes Madrid remains the most likely outcome, largely because of Mbappe’s own mindset and the scale of the challenge he has taken on.
Pressure building off the pitch in Madrid
The noise around Mbappe isn’t purely about results or performances. It’s the combination of expectation, scrutiny, and the sheer intensity that comes with playing for Real Madrid.
Even when performances are strong, the spotlight rarely shifts. That constant evaluation has created a situation where every decision off the pitch becomes part of the wider narrative.
The reaction to his injury-period holiday was a clear example. While players spending downtime away from football is hardly unusual, the optics in Madrid tend to amplify everything. Once that momentum builds, it rarely fades quickly.
Petit believes that level of pressure is central to whether Mbappe stays or eventually looks elsewhere, even if that feels unlikely at this stage.
The Florentino Perez factor
If there is one figure who ultimately shapes outcomes at Real Madrid, it is Florentino Perez. And Petit pointed directly at the club president as the man who could decide Mbappe’s fate if pressure becomes overwhelming.
“The only way he leaves is if Florentino Perez cracks under the pressure,” Petit said. “Millions of fans have signed to say they want him to leave the club. That could be the end for Mbappe because Florentino Perez is a political guy. If Arsenal win the Champions League for the first time then it would change the course of their history and send a strong message in the transfer market.”
That final point ties Arsenal directly into the equation. Their current European campaign, including a Champions League final against PSG, has already raised expectations around the club. A first European crown would change how they are viewed across the continent almost overnight.
And in that scenario, the idea of attracting elite-level stars like Mbappe becomes less theoretical.
Arsenal’s growing ambition
For Arsenal, this is still very much a “what if” conversation. But it’s the kind of speculation that naturally follows clubs when they begin to consistently challenge at the highest level again.
Petit believes success in Europe would fundamentally alter Arsenal’s standing in the transfer market. It would not just be about silverware, but about perception.
He added: “Players would of course want to play for the Champions League winners and hope they can go and win it again, it would help them attract Kylian Mbappe if he does leave Real Madrid.”
That’s the key point in all of this. At the moment, Mbappe remains in Madrid, and there is still little concrete indication that a departure is actively on the table. But football moves quickly when pressure, politics, and performance start to collide.
Arsenal, at least for now, sit on the outside of that situation. But they are closer to the conversation than they would have been a few years ago, and that alone is worth noting.
Whether anything more develops will depend on what happens in Madrid over the coming months, and how both club and player respond to the growing noise around them.
For now, Mbappe stays where he is. But the fact that serious voices are even discussing alternatives tells its own story.
And the question, as always in these situations, is how long that remains the case.
